While no RBA monthly decision on monetary policy is ever a given, this month featured a market fairly split down the middle on a will they/won’t they basis.
While recent data had been somewhat alarming from an inflationary point of view, the RBA appears to have decided to stick by its earlier desire to let things pan out for a while before making the next move. The US and global economies, local drought and debt levels, and the surging Aussie dollar most likely have played on the committee’s mind.
The RBA does not provide accompanying commentary when it leaves monetary policy alone, but FNArena will provide coverage of economist responses later in the day.
