The producer price index (PPI), a figure which the RBA watches closely in consideration of monetary policy, remained fairly flat in the March quarter. Preliminary stage production rose 0.1%, intermediate stage 0.3%, and final stage 0.0%.
 
A quick glance suggests lower import prices offset increases in domestic prices – no doubt a factor of the higher Aussie. FNArena will provide a comprehensive wrap of economist responses later today.
