Stronger fund flows, resilient investment performance and recent acquisitions have strengthened confidence that Navigator Global Investments can sustain earnings growth into FY27.
- Consensus-beating 4Q update by Navigator Global Investments
- Lighthouse leads the way, more modest growth at NGI Strategic
- improving momentum underpinned by investment returns
- Management’s target to double earnings by FY30 achievable, says Morgans
By Mark Woodruff

Specialist alternative asset management company Navigator Global Investments ((NGI)) delivered a stronger-than-expected June quarter update, with both investment performance and fund flows exceeding expectations.
Despite geopolitical uncertainty, interest rate volatility and evolving market conditions, Macquarie notes most Lighthouse strategies and several NGI Strategic partner firms delivered strong investment performance during the quarter.
Ord Minnett believes FY27 earnings are well positioned to benefit from favourable asset under management (AUM) and performance trends, with the recently acquired NGI Stable portfolio contributing from July 2026.
The company’s share price has risen by around 40% to $2.38 over the last 12 months, driven by strong growth in AUM, resilient earnings and fee income, along with optimism around acquisitions that expand its portfolio of revenue-sharing interests.
During this period, shares reached a peak of $3.34 only to materially decline after half-year results in February. While the headline numbers were strong, the market focused on weaker guidance.
Management expected FY26 earnings (adjusted EBITDA) would be lower than FY25 because the exceptionally strong profit distributions received from its NGI Strategic division in the second half of FY25 would not be repeated.
Share price weakness also reflected broader investor caution towards global alternative asset managers amid private credit concerns, Morgans suggests, rather than any deterioration in Navigator’s underlying fundamentals.
Navigator provides investment management products and services worldwide through a dual-segment model: the Lighthouse Group, a global absolute-return funds manager, via wholly owned Lighthouse Investment Partners; and the NGI Strategic segment, which holds minority stakes in several alternative asset managers.
Portfolio AUM and Private Markets AUM are the two main components within the NGI Strategic division.
Typically including hedge funds and other actively managed portfolios, Portfolio AUM comprises liquid investment strategies managed by NGI Strategic’s partner firms.
Private Markets AUM consists of capital managed by partner firms in private equity, private credit, infrastructure, real estate and other closed-end alternative strategies.
Steadying the ship
After an extended period of net outflows, Lighthouse is now generating sustained positive net inflows, with US$690m in the June quarter following US$1.2bn in the March quarter.
This improving momentum has been underpinned by investment returns comfortably exceeding benchmark over both the three- and five-year periods, Morgans explains.
The broker believes Navigator is well placed to capitalise on structural tailwinds in global alternative assets.
With ownership-adjusted AUM growing at a 7.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) over FY21-FY25, and recent acquisitions such as the NGI Stable Growth Portfolio enhancing earnings, Morgans believes management’s goal of doubling earnings by FY30 looks achievable.
Business Model
The company operates on a specific compounding growth model. Unlike many asset-management peers, UBS explains Navigator’s performance-fee profile avoids the typical ‘feast-or-famine’ dynamic.
A diversified exposure to uncorrelated alternative asset classes, low hurdle arrangements, and wide strategy breadth are seen as supporting a steady performance-fee profile through varying market conditions.
Navigator owns the Lighthouse hedge fund platform and holds minority equity interests in 29 partner firms across a broad range of alternative asset management strategies. These affiliate managers are well-established, institutional-quality businesses diversified by investment style, products, and client base.
Management has been busy since interim results, announcing the purchase of a 4.5% minority interest in Georgian, a Canada-based AI-focused technology investor.
Then, in early-May, Navigator outlaid -US$195m on a portfolio of alternative asset manager interests funded via a $145m fully underwritten pro rate accelerated non-renounceable entitlement offer and $136m of Navigator’s scrip. Completion of this acquisition is expected shortly.
A strategic partnership with Stable Asset Management was also announced, for the management and monitoring of the NGI Stable Growth Portfolio on behalf of Navigator.
Partnering with Stable, a leading general partner investment, seeding, and acceleration platform, is expected to provide Navigator with access to an attractive pipeline of additional opportunities.
A publicly listed alternative asset manager based in New York, Blue Owl Capital (formerly Dyal Capital Investors) originally sold a portfolio of minority stakes in leading alternative asset managers to Navigator, then received additional Navigator shares as part of the settlement.
Navigator’s largest shareholder is a permanent capital vehicle managed by GP Strategic Capital, a division of Blue Owl, which owns around 46.5% of the company and serves as its long-term strategic partner.
June quarter results
UBS highlights stronger-than-expected ownership-adjusted AUM growth, with AUM rising by 6.1% over the quarter to US$33.6bn, exceeding both its forecast and consensus by 3% and 6%, respectively.
By division, Lighthouse Group’s assets under management (AUM) increased 8% quarter-on-quarter to US$20.3bn, up 27% on the prior year. Net inflows totalled US$690m in the June quarter, compared with outflows of -US$700m a year earlier.
Ord Minnett explains the 8% quarterly growth was split roughly 45:55 between net inflows and investment performance. Managed accounts and hedge funds attracted net inflows of US$500m and US$390m, respectively, while the Northrock and Penglai Peak funds both moved above their high-water marks for performance fees.
AUM came in 7% ahead of the consensus estimate, supported by solid growth in direct hedge funds, explains UBS. It’s noted earnings upside was moderated by stronger inflows into the lower-margin managed accounts business.
Ord Minnett highlights Lighthouse Partners has surpassed US$20bn in assets under management (AUM), reflecting strong execution by chief executive Sean McGould and his team.
Growth was driven by continued inflows into both the hedge fund platform and the platform-only offering, the broker explains.
NGI Strategic delivered more modest AUM growth of 3.1% over the quarter to US$13.3bn (up 13% on the prior year), UBS observes, as liquid alternatives managers CFM and Capstone benefited from volatile markets and strong inflows, partly offset by asset realisations within the private markets portfolio.
Portfolio AUM increased 5% to around US$10bn, supported by inflows and investment performance, while Private Markets AUM declined -3% following realisations across several partner firms, although it remained 35% higher over FY26.
Outlook
Ongoing AUM growth across Lighthouse and NGI Strategic in the fourth quarter leaves Navigator well positioned entering FY27, Macquarie suggests, supported by favourable earnings momentum.
Ord Minnett concurs, believing strong performance across most Lighthouse funds during buoyant market conditions provides a solid foundation for FY27 management fee revenue.
