Morgans

Accumulate

$80.30

4.07%

JB Hi-Fi's 1Q27 trading update was slightly softer than expected, with Morgans highlighting weaker sales in the core Australian business, offset by improving trends at The Good Guys and strong growth in NZ.

Management flagged a slowdown in October sales ahead of the key Black Friday, Christmas and Boxing Day promotional periods.

JB Hi-Fi Australia comparable sales declined -1.4% y/y, with total sales down -0.4%, tracking below consensus expectations.

The Good Guys' comparable sales were down -0.4%, improving from July, while NZ delivered 10.7% comparable sales growth, ahead of forecasts.

EPS forecasts are trimmed by -1.4% for both FY27 and FY28, reflecting weaker Australian sales and modest margin pressure, partly offset by upgrades to New Zealand and The Good Guys.

Supplier-funded discounting should help limit margin pressure. Morgans retains its Accumulate rating and lowers its target price to $80.30 from $82.00.

FORECAST
Morgans forecasts a full year FY27 dividend of 332.00 cents and EPS of 443.00 cents.
Morgans forecasts a full year FY28 dividend of 346.00 cents and EPS of 462.00 cents.

Buy

$80.50

4.33%

Jarden maintains a Buy rating for JB Hi-Fi with its target price decreased to $80.50 from $83.40 following a trading update highlighting consumer hesitation ahead of key sales events.

Jarden details a -2% to -4% reduction in FY27 to FY29 earnings per share forecasts, fewer accessory attachments, and outperformance in lower-margin tech categories.

Management observed deteriorating momentum into October with an Australian like-for-like sales run-rate decline of -4%, prompting a reduction in FY27 like-for-like sales growth estimates to -0.1%.

The analyst notes the company remains a preferred discretionary exposure, uniquely positioned to capture market share and benefit from an upcoming electronics replacement cycle, improved supply, and major gaming software launches.
