Copper Leading Equities Higher?

Commodities | Jun 08 2011

By Rudi Filapek-Vandyck

It's been said often by those having accumulated many years of market experience: copper tends to show the way.

Technical market analysts at Barclays Capital in London have put the theory to the test and compared price action between copper and US equities over the past two years. Their conclusion: unless there is similar timing between the two, copper tends to lead by one month, both to the upside as to the downside.

This is good news for traders and investors in equities awaiting the next rally, because it would appear the price of copper has bottomed and has started to grind higher again.
