ASX 200 Trend Positive

Technicals | May 14 2013

By Michael Gable

The topic on everyone’s lips at the moment is the weakening Australian dollar. Some of my tips recently have done well on the back of Aussie dollar weakness such as Brambles ((BXB)), Cochlear ((COH)), and Computershare CPU)). And let’s not forget QBE Inurance ((QBE)) having a sensational run after last week’s breakout. It’s already punched through my first target and I anticipate levels up towards $16 due to the currency movements. As a result, I have grabbed a handful of stocks that should benefit with a strengthening US dollar and had a look at the charts to determine where we can expect them to head to. In the list today are Ansell, Aristocrat, News Corp, and Sonic Healthcare.

ASX 200

A good close above the 5150 level last week suggests to me that the index will continue to trend higher. Short term however I can see a bit of consolidation first. From the April low, the market, instead of rallying in 3 waves and falling over, has done a textbook 5 wave rally. This suggests that we will see a pullback here but it should be fairly shallow and will merely precede another run up. Ideally we would like to see it consolidate in time and sit on top of that March high. If not, I wouldn’t expect it to congest much further back than about 5060.
