FYI | Apr 12 2006
I cannot commence this week’s editorial other than by thanking you all for your enthusiastic support for our new venture.
FN Arena News is only nine days old, but judging by the emails we received over the short period, we have already managed to become the bread and butter of many grateful retail investor in Australia.
And yet, I can not emphasise this enough, this is only just the beginning.
The initial take up of our Special Easter Promotion has exceeded our early expectations, but it’s the many supportive emails that have once again fired up our spirits, blew our minds and provided us with even more motivation to make this service even better (and better and better).
Some among you were that fast, we hadn’t even properly set up our email systems yet. Apologies if I haven’t got back to you, truth is there is a fair chance your email got lost somewhere in between cyberspace and one of our email servers. (It wasn’t personal and it wasn’t deliberate).
Today saw us for the first time publishing a reader’s email response to one of our Telstra stories on the FN Arena News service. We know from experience there are quite some knowledgeable people among our audience – so why not share their opinions and views with the rest of you in the open?
Personally, I have an idea where this open debate about VoIP (voice over IP) and Telstra’s fixed line revenues is going to end. But let’s find out over the Easter period together.
Good to see as well that our initial struggles with modern age technology did not cause too many angry emails flooding into our inboxes. Setting up a news service in the short time span we had at our disposal is not something I would particularly recommend to anyone. It’s hard labour intertwined with many human errors and omissions.
However, in an odd twist of the human mind, and once the process is at full throttle, there’s only pleasure that comes out of it. Ever felt like you were the king of the whole village because you managed to solve one of life’s many unsolvable mysteries? Well, we’ve had exactly that feeling on each of the past nine days.
It gets addictive. I should be careful. But for all I know, it’s probably already too late.
Many colleagues in the online industry have sent us their "compliments" as well.
With one in particular I had a rather surprising conversation this week. "Surprising" because for the first time since we’ve known each other, and have had contact over the past several years, I actually felt a bit of hostility creeping into the conversation. Just a little bit, though.
But maybe that’s just my imagination.
I hope you all like what we’re doing. In case you’re not totally convinced just yet, may I ask to give us the benefit of the doubt?
We’re in for great things here, but we need your support to make it happen.
All the best. Happy Easter.
Till next week!
Yours Truly,
Rudi Filapek-Vandyck
