Following on tonight from China's monthly round of economic data, including the all important inflation number, the US will also see its CPI released along with industrial production, the Empire State manufacturing index and the fortnightly consumer sentiment survey. Bank of America will report quarterly earnings.
We then move into one of the busiest weeks of the US reporting season next week. Among the hundreds of results, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, American Express, General Electric, Intel, IBM, Yahoo, Apple, Johnson & Johnson, McDonalds, Freeport McMoRan, AT&T and Verizon are the standouts.
It will also be housing week in the US, featuring the releases of the housing market sentiment index, housing starts, existing home sales and the FHFA house price index. If anything can put a dampener on the US recovery story, other than unemployment, it's housing data.
The Australian resource sector quarterly reporting season is in full swing next week, with Newcrest ((NCM)), Woodside ((WPL)), BHP Billiton ((BHP)) and Santos ((STO)) all in the frame. We'll also have quarterly retail sales results from Woolworths ((WOW)) and Wesfarmers ((WES)).
It's relatively quiet on the economic front, with the release of the RBA minutes, the Conference Board leading economic index and the PPI being the highlights.
It will be a short week next week, culminating with all non-Asian markets closed for Good Friday. Note that Good Friday is the only Easter holiday in the US, meaning it will be business as usual the following Monday. The UK, Australia and New Zealand markets will be closed on Easter Monday, and then the Australian and New Zealand markets will remain closed on the Tuesday as the carry over holiday for Anzac Day which coincidentally falls on the Monday.
