The Australian share market is finding it tough to show some consistency on Friday as a combination of "encouraging" economic data in the US and Europe and lingering concerns about Chinese tightening provided a rather mixed lead overnight. The fact that some market watchers are suggesting commodities in general were due for a pullback anyway doesn't exactly make a case for firm buying activity. Tonight sees no important economic data being released in the US, so it'll be up to corporate results to give direction for equities and for risk appetite in general, one presumes.

Next week is cut in two because of the celebration of Australian Day – right in the middle of the week and on the day of the next Fed decision. No fun on Wednesday for Australian investors thus (not in the local share market that is).

The first half of the week is light overseas, apart from ongoing corporate reports in the US and a Fed decision (no change) on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday will bring us more insights on durable goods and pending home sales in the US, followed by the initial estimate of fourth quarter GDP growth in the US plus another read on consumer sentiment.

In Australia, the pace of quarterly production reports by miners picks up with the likes of Newcrest ((NCM)), Riversdale ((RIV)), Oil Search (OSH)) and Paladin ((PDN)) all on the calendar. Plus the first locally listed companies will start releasing earnings reports after Australia Day, including GUD Holdings ((GUD)), ResMed ((RMD)) and Energy Resources of Australia ((ERA)).

As far as local economic releases are concerned, the calendar shows no major releases.
