ASX Top Gainers & Losers plus Market Snapshot – 25 October 2013

Solid leads out of the US overnight paved the way for an upbeat start to Friday’s trading session, providing a respectable end to the full week of trading, which saw our local index rise 1.24% since Friday’s close last week. With positive news coming from China’s manufacturing data yesterday plus the bullish close on Wall Street, our S&P/ASX 200 managed to hold on to the early gains and post a rise of 13.4 points or 0.25% on higher than average volume, thanks to options expiry.

Shining lights in today’s market belonged to the Energy and Real Estate Investment Trust sector with the Energy stocks lifting 0.80% and REIT stocks climbing 0.67%. Information Technology and Health Care sectors were unable to see positive ground and lost 1.49% and 0.91% respectively.

Looking over the charts

Slight hesitation at these new found blue sky levels is starting to show with a couple of days of higher wicks which indicate distributive selling. On an intraday basis we continue to notice the exuberance early in the session over the last couple of days followed by a gradual sell off. Whilst the sell off is minor it is still worth noting that the main focus for short term traders must be early in the session, especially when no major economic data is due out in Australia during the day.

ASX top 200 stock analysis

7% of stocks are showing oversold levels, 32% are showing overbought levels and 65% of stocks are currently above their long term moving average as of close of trading today.
