The local result season will continue into the last two days of February, next week, but the number of reporting companies will drop dramatically. Bigger names reporting next week include Lend Lease ((LLC)), QBE Insurance ((QBE)) and Harvey Norman ((HVN)).

There is a small number of companies who will report in March, but more notably March will feature an ongoing run of ex-dividends, post result announcements, that will act as a drag on the index.

Focus will quickly swing back to the economy, with the release of Australia’s December quarter GDP result on Wednesday. Numbers for company profits and inventories and the current account, including what will be an interesting terms of trade result, will precede.

Monthly local data releases next week include private sector credit, building approvals, the trade balance, and manufacturing and service sector PMIs.

Wednesday is the first of the month, meaning manufacturing PMIs from across the globe with service PMIs following on Friday, except out of China, where both are released on the Wednesday.

US releases next week include durable goods, pending home sales, house prices, trade, construction spending, personal income & spending, consumer confidence, vehicle sales and the two PMIs. The Fed Beige Book will be released and the first revision of the December quarter GDP result will be published.

None of which means a helluva lot at present, nonetheless. All that matters is future fiscal policy setting, and for that we wait, and wait, for Mr Trump.
