The May US jobs report is out tonight, with the focus in recent times not so much on headline job additions but on wages growth as an inflation indicator. With last night’s core PCE remaining stubbornly below 2%, it would take a hot wage growth number to scare Wall Street into worrying about the Fed once more.
Next week in the US is quiet economically, with factory orders, the services PMI and trade balance the major releases.
Services PMIs will be released across the globe on Tuesday.
It is by contrast a very big week for Australia economically.
Monthly data include ANZ job ads, retail sales, the services PMI and the trade balance. China will release its trade numbers on Friday.
Australia's March quarter GDP result is due on Wednesday, preceded by numbers for company profits and inventories and the current account, including the terms of trade.
The RBA meets on Tuesday.
S&P/ASX will announce quarterly changes to index components on Friday, which come into effect the following week.
We’re now pretty much in the traditional blackout period pre-EOFY for the stock market, barring any late mail profit warnings. Wesfarmers’ ((WES)) analyst meeting is the only scheduled corporate event next week.
New Zealand is closed on Monday.
