Daily update on share prices and consensus price targets.
By Rudi Filapek-Vandyck
Prior to the launch of the automated Icarus Signal on the FNArena website, holiday accommodation portal Wotif.com ((WTF)) featured regularly in my warnings about certain stocks looking overly expensive. I was reminded this week as to why exactly that was the case. Wotif.com shares have again been rejected above consensus target, and ongoing weakness seems to be the immediate result. It is for shares such as Wotif.com that the Icarus Signal proves its value, time and time again.
Some technicians amongst the readers will argue Wotif.com shares were rejected at the 60 moving average. I, however, say this is yet another example of Icarus.
In the meantime, a decimated list of stocks trading near target has welcomed two newcomers after yesterday's price action; DWS Advanced Business Solutions ((DWS)) and Ansell ((ANN)). The first one might as well be labelled "perpetual yoyo", the second one has now been gradually making a come-back after having been rejected above target a few weeks ago, and prior to that in May.
With Wotif.com falling out of the list and with Treasure Wine Estates ((TWE)) surging above target (take-over speculation, no doubt) the list of stocks trading near target has remained stable at seven.
Now that TWE has joined the stocks above target, together with accountancy software provider Reckon ((RKN)), there are now 27 stocks trading above target. This includes the likes of Macarthur Coal ((MCC)) for whom corporate interest has announced itself.
