It’s Thanksgiving week in the US next week, which means Thursday is a holiday, Friday is a half-day on the NYSE which two men and a dog will turn up for, and Wednesday is as good as a half-day given everyone will scramble home early lest the turkey be overdone. It’s always a bit of a messy week.

There will be a lot of data releases crammed in ahead of the turkey nevertheless, including pending home sales, housing starts, two house price indices, indices from the Richmond and Chicago Feds, two consumer confidence measures, personal spending, durable goods and the first revision of the September quarter GDP.

There should be enough there to offer a bit of a snapshot of the real US economy, outside of the taper-talk parallel universe.

There’s a bit of a data dump from Japan toward week’s end, including retail sales, industrial production, manufacturing, jobs and inflation releases. China’s manufacturing PMI is due on the Sunday.

In Australia we’ll see releases for both September quarter construction work done and capital expenditure, which means we begin the countdown to the GDP release the following week. We’ll also see October private sector credit.

Sick of AGMs yet? Too bad. Next week’s round includes Harvey Norman ((HVN)), Woolworths ((WOW)), Bank of Queensland ((BOQ)) and Primary Health Care ((PRY)), among plenty of others. ALS ((ALQ)) and Programmed Maintenance ((PRG)) will report half-years and Aristocrat ((ALL)) and Primary Health will report full-years.

The good news is next week pretty much brings us to the end of the AGM season for those companies making it onto ASX indices.
