It’s an abbreviated trading session in the US tonight, with the NYSE closing at 1.00pm, commodity markets similarly opening for shortened sessions and bond markets closed. Most of Wall Street will be turning the Thanksgiving holiday into a four-day long weekend.
On Sunday Beijing will release China’s official manufacturing PMI for November.
The rest of the world will follow suit on Monday in what will be a busy week of data releases across the globe and in Australia.
Australia, China (HSBC), the eurozone, UK and US will report manufacturing PMIs on Monday and service sector PMIs on Wednesday. Beijing will release China’s official services PMI on Tuesday.
Both the ECB and Bank of England will hold policy meetings on Thursday.
The US will see construction spending, vehicle sales, new home sales, chain store sales, the trade balance, the Fed Beige Book, factory orders and consumer sentiment data across the week. Wednesday sees the ADP private sector jobs report and Friday the all-important non-farm payrolls.
Australia will see monthly house price and inflation data (TD Securities), building approvals, retail sales and the trade balance. Monday brings September quarter company profits and inventories, Tuesday the current account and net exports, and Wednesday the GDP.
The RBA will hold a policy meeting on Tuesday but given recent success in talking down the Aussie, no rate change is expected.
The ASX will announce its quarterly rebalance of stock indices on Friday.
The AGM season is all but over now for larger cap stocks, although there will still be a few stragglers. Brambles ((BXB)) will hold a demerger-related shareholders meeting on Tuesday while Metcash ((MTS)) will report its interim result on Monday.
