With results season now over the local market goes into a bit of a lull in news terms over the next month, notwithstanding anything unexpected. But with results come dividends, hence the feature of next week will be a lot of companies going ex, and thus weighing on the index.

The RBA will meet on Tuesday and point to a rock and a hard place, thus leaving rates on hold. ANZ’s job ads series and housing finance numbers are due next week.

China will release trade and inflation data.

The ECB will hold a policy meeting.

The US will see numbers for factory orders, trade, and most importantly, jobs.

Only a month ago it seemed Wall Street didn’t really care too much about the latest jobs numbers, as has not been the case for many years. With Trump in the White House it was assumed the Fed would indeed have to raise some time, but given the Fed itself is, like everyone else, waiting to see what fiscal policies are actually implemented, no one was expecting a rate hike as soon as March.

Now almost everyone is assuming a hike in March. Too many Fedheads have provided too many hints.

Hence we’re back to closely watching the US non-farm payrolls result.

In other local stock market action next week, Sonic Health Care ((SHL)) and Treasury Wine Estates ((TWE)) will host investor days next week and on Thursday the ACCC is scheduled to deliver its decision on the Tatts ((TTS))/Tabcorp ((TAH)) merger.
