Two important dates on the calendar next week will be Thursday locally and Friday in London.

On Thursday, China releases monthly data on CPI, investment, industrial production, retail sales as most notably, its third quarter GDP reading. The UK follows quickly on Friday night with its initial third quarter GDP estimate. In the following week, the US will have its turn.

The US will also release its monthly housing market sentiment index next week, along with housing starts and home sales. The Fed’s Beige Book – an anecdotal monthly survey of economic activity in the 12 Fed regions, is due on Wednesday.

Australia will be looking out for monthly import/export pricing data and motor vehicle sales, along with the leading economic indicators measure from August. The RBA will release the minutes of the last rate meeting, in which the first rate rise was decided upon, but ongoing positive data releases, including unemployment, have probably rendered these minutes a little out of date. Governor Stevens has already heralded more interest rate rises ahead in a speech this week.

On the local stock market front, Annual General Meeting season really steps up a gear next week, with an avalanche of shareholder get-togethers. Amongst the rush, Woolies ((WOW)) and Coles ((WES)) will release their quarterly sales figures.

In the US, third quarter earnings season also gets into full stride next week with a barrage of results.
