With the breach of 1700 for the S&P 500, Wall Street is now looking for the next bull phase into blue sky. Support is provided by a still cautious Fed, and all is supposedly right with the world. Tonight sees the US jobs numbers, along with personal income and spending and factory orders, and expectations are for a solid employment result. No longer, does it seem, is Wall Street scared of tapering.

Although watch for a dip the day it finally happens.

It’s an otherwise quiet week for US data next week and the quarterly earnings season is now into its long tail. Data include the services sector PMI, trade balance and chain store sales.

Tomorrow the official Chinese service sector PMI is due and everyone else will wait until Monday along with the US, being Australia, the eurozone and UK. A solid week of Chinese data will be matched with some important Australian data. Not to mention an RBA rate cut on Tuesday.

China’s trade balance is due on Thursday and on Friday it’s a data-dump of inflation, sales, production and investment numbers.

Australia’s week includes the service and construction PMIs, retail sales, trade balance, ANZ job ads, housing finance, investment lending, and on Thursday, the jobs numbers. Presumably such data will now fuel speculation of the next rate cut, after Tuesday’s rate cut.

Note that Monday is a bank holiday in NSW, which may slow things down a bit. Those poor, overworked bankers deserve more breaks than the rest of us.

No, I said bankers.

Otherwise the Australian result season slips into second gear next week, with reports expected from Cochlear ((COH)), Downer EDI ((DOW)), Rio Tinto ((RIO)), Telstra ((TLS)) and Tabcorp ((TAH)) among others.
