ASX Top Gainers & Losers plus Market Snapshot – 12 November 2013
Record highs yet again on the US indices greeted Aussie traders first thing this morning, but volumes in the US were light due to Veterans Day, which saw the US bond markets closed. Gold was certainly one of the key talking points as it dropped below $US1280 an ounce and continues to break down towards critical support levels. The S&P/ASX 200 shot out of the gates early with futures showing a 22 point gain on the open, but those highlights were short lived as profit takers stepped in 30 minutes after open, pushing our index back down, ending the session up 6 points of 0.11% on $3.7 billion.
Another mixed bag of results for the Aussie sectors with 6 falling and 5 rising. The best gains were found among the Energy and Materials sectors, rising 0.79% and 0.68% respectively, whilst Consumer Discretionary fell a modest 0.38% and the Real Estate Investment Trust sector dropped 0.34%, coming off their recent high levels.
Looking over the charts
Our market continues to threaten new recent highs but time and time again, drops away and finds it tough to mount a come-back. On an intraday basis our market shot out of the gate, rising over 30 points in the first 20 minutes but no sooner had it done that then it started to fall, giving back those early gains. In the end the market bounced along yesterday’s close 7 times before a small rally, pushed up by intraday technical traders, before profit taking stepped in to close it very near yesterday’s close.
